Digital Financial Literacy Campaign

Digital Financial Literacy Campaign observes participation of over one lakh students:

Withstanding the earnest mission to promote digital literacy, the campaign aims to impart students on how to open a bank account with Aadhaar Card and also to link the later with mobile number.



In what appears to be a move parallel to Narendra Modi's drive for digital economy amidst demonetisation in accord with cashless transaction, over one lakh of students volunteered for the Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan (Visaka) (Digital Financial Literacy Campaign) which was launched few days back.

Applauding the good response from the students, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar, on Thursday anticipated that the numbers be soon ascended to 25 lakh.
"We will start with the training Friday in various collages and the number is expected to grow at a much higher level," said the HRD minister, as reported in The Indian Express.


What is the campaign being conducted for?


Withstanding the earnest mission to promote digital literacy, the campaign aims to impart students on how to open a bank account with Aadhaar Card and also to link the later with mobile number.
At the campaign, students will be provided with training to accustom Aadhaar based payment system, pre-paid card, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), mobile wallet and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD).

The union minister said that the ongoing Digital Financial Literacy Campaign is the biggest effort rendered by volunteered students towards digital transaction and transformation of India, hitherto  
In the process, the government aims to spread the campaign in 500 cities more, which has over 1 lakh population, across the country 
Following the launching of the campaign last week, the HRD ministry urged the heads of the respective education institutions to recognised their student's efforts for coming forward and volunteering for the campaign in promoting cashless economy
While the HRD ministry will be monitoring public responses relating to the campaign, the campaign will be in full swing for one month.
